Australia Zoo – A New World Awaits!
Australia Zoo in Queensland is one of the most iconic wildlife attractions in Australia. Located on the stunning Sunshine Coast near Beerwah/Glass House Mountains and Palmview QLD, this 700-acre zoo attracts thousands of visitors every year from all over the world. Owned by Terri Irwin, widow of Steve Irwin, it is no surprise that Australia Zoo has become a popular destination for wildlife enthusiasts and animal lovers alike.
Since its inception in 1970, Australia Zoo has been committed to preserving and protecting native wildlife in Australia, as well as being an advocate for conservation education and research. This commitment to conservation is evident throughout the zoo and can be seen through their diverse range of wildlife displays, habitats and enrichments which continue to expand each year.
They have a wide array of animals including mammals such as koalas, wombats, red pandas and dingoes; reptiles such as crocodiles, snakes and lizards; birds such as kookaburras and parrots; amphibians such as frogs and turtles; fish species like barramundi; invertebrates such as butterflies; plus countless other species.
The zoo also offers educational presentations throughout the day that provide visitors with valuable insight into the lives of these amazing creatures. You could also try your hand at Skirmish Paintball in Palmview.
The zoo’s main attraction is its resident collection of crocs – both saltwater and freshwater – which can be seen up close at ‘Crocoseum’ where exciting live shows are held regularly that put these incredible reptiles on show for all to see. Other thrilling experiences include feeding giraffes at their interactive feeding platform or patting a wallaby or wombat at ‘Wetlands’, not to mention having your photo taken with some of the cutest cuddly koalas!
Australia Zoo also has a host of children’s activities available throughout the day which make this a great place to take kids when visiting Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. These include Junior Ranger Programs where they can learn about Australian wildlife while participating in guided walks or even getting a chance to help care for one of the animals!
For older kids there are also Animal Encounters which involve going behind-the-scenes with zookeepers to have an up close encounter with some of their favorite animals like tigers, cheetahs or meerkats!
It’s hard not be inspired by Australia Zoo’s commitment to animal conservation and education. Moreover it is clear that Steve Irwin’s legacy still lives on through his family’s continued passion for inspiring people about wildlife conservation across Australia and around the world.
